Dear Earthling, Like meditation, poetry has long been a vehicle for creating greater presence and connection to ourselves, others, and the world. Over the years, in this newsletter, you may have read poetry that is meant to help us reflect deeply on an important topic of our time: the human caused climate breakdown. All of the poems I shared evoke one or many of the myriad of feelings that the crisis brings up: lack of understanding, anxiety, helplessness, grief, guilt, ambivalence, as well as aspiration, hope, a sense of emerging possibilities, renewal, and maybe, a renewed commitment to take steps towards acting for the Earth and for the wellbeing of us all as earthlings. In an attempt to take stock, I reproduce below the posts that I have shared on Earth Day in the last seven years, starting from the most recent in 2025. Please pay attention to the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in parts per millions as measured on the Mauna Loa observatory in Hawaii that is included with each date. The last measurement from co2.earth is a few days old and reads April 5, 2026- 433.24 ppm. Thoughts? Feelings? Insights? Warmly, Anne-Marie

PS: The carbon dioxide data on Mauna Loa constitute the longest record of direct measurements of CO2 in the atmosphere. They were started by C. David Keeling of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in March of 1958 at a facility of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration which the current administration has threatened to close and defund.
